Developers also added approximately 2.5GW of commercial rooftop solar capacity, a 75% year-on-year increase.

Carsten Körnig, general manager of the association, said further steps are needed to speed up the process and upgrade the grid faster. In addition, more energy storage capacity will be needed to support the growing share of solar capacity.

In addition, the association said that more than 1.5 million private homeowners are planning to install solar systems on their roofs.
